Double feature: "the best dog" and "look what tobi found"

So yesterday I was really feeling "quite ready for another adventure" and decided to make it a ski as Caleb said the snow on the trail we ski was really fast. So about 6pm I dressed down, got my favorite podcast downloaded, summoned my adventure shadow with a sharp whistle and headed on to the Chena lake ski trails. Bub was right it was pretty fast. being a crossfiter at heart I of course wasn't content to just 'go get some exercise' I had to time the thing. 4.5 kilometers was the distance. the first ski this winter was about 30 minutes, after several trips i've peared it down to 23:40 last night. I'd like to hit sub 20 or sub 18 next winter but its time to start thinking about 5k run times as the snow melts... (not that running is "it" that kinda thinking is for losers). I was thinking this summer it'd be fun to bring one of the kettle bells down to the beach and to somthing like

3 rounds for time of
swim to the rope and back (life jacket optional)
55lb kettle bell swings, 21 reps
12 burpees

That'll separate the men from the boys.

Any way back to 'the best dog' (lucky you actually got a triple feature today) so after taking the dog on a 5k ski, (which she probably ran more like 10k what with all the sniffing and exploring going on) I let her run behind the car out to the main road. she can keep a 22 mph pace for a good distance, not to shabby. When I got home after the ski I swapped out the ski's for skates as every one was at the ice rink. I got there and there was a game in progress on the other end so I just skated around on the other end. I'm not really into the idea of hockey as much as just skating. I just love how its so fluid a powerful, just brilliant. I just started this winter, Jordan got me all hooked up with his old skates and gloves, then the guy went out and bought me my first stick (it even matches my gloves... cool but NOT on purpose) after the game was over I told Bek that her dog was still in my car and we let her out on the ice and she chased a puck around on the ice. I think she was pretty weired out by the idea of people moving really fast and her moving very slow, then there's the whole not being able to stop thing, that was funny. so she chased pucks around while her mommy acted all paranoid about her losing a puppy-toe to a skate.

All in all, a pretty full day for the dog. I for the record thing dogs should be athletes and not just snuggle bunnies. I guess she was having muscle pain all night afterwards. kept getting out of bed and having leg twitches and stuff. Don't forget you can give dogs ibuprofen people!

the other thing I wanted to share was just a cool web comic tobi found called one swoop fell, I've ready web comics in the past, 'sluggy freelance' was pretty entertaining through most of high school. I really just wanted to put this picture up and give credit where due. I just was really struck by the cute little scene interjected while the bear and his bird friend stopped for sushi, a favorite past time of mine with my Juneau buddies
